Dog Fouling in Camelford – How to Report It and Help Keep Our Town Clean

March 10th 2026

Camelford Town Council is asking residents to help tackle the ongoing issue of dog fouling in our community. Dog mess is unpleasant, unhygienic, and poses health risks—particularly to children. While most dog owners act responsibly, a small minority continue to leave mess behind, and we need your help to address it.

Cornwall Council enforces the Dog Fouling Public Spaces Protection Order, which applies to all publicly accessible land across Cornwall. Anyone who fails to pick up after their dog may receive a £100 Fixed Penalty Notice, and non‑payment can lead to prosecution with a possible fine of up to £1,000. [cornwall.gov.uk]

How to Report Dog Fouling

If you witness dog fouling or spot problem areas in Camelford, you can report it directly to Cornwall Council.

1. Report a Dog Owner for Failing to Pick Up

Cornwall Council investigates all reports where persistent fouling occurs or where there is evidence. Useful information includes:

  • Date, time, location
  • What you witnessed
  • Description of the dog and owner
  • Photo or video evidence, if safely available

Dog Warden Patrols

Cornwall Council has a limited number of Dog Welfare and Enforcement Officers, but also authorises other officers—including some not in uniform—to issue fixed penalty notices. This means enforcement may be happening even when it’s not visible. [cornwall.gov.uk]

How You Can Help

  • Always carry bags and clean up after your dog.
  • Encourage responsible dog ownership among friends, neighbours, and visitors.
  • Report persistent fouling so the council can focus patrols where they’re most needed.
  • Provide evidence when safe to do so, as it greatly increases the likelihood of enforcement action.

Together, we can help keep Camelford’s streets, parks, footpaths, and green spaces clean and safe for everyone.

If you have any questions, please contact Camelford Town Council and we will be happy to assist.
