Residents of Camelford will be asked over the coming weeks for their opinions on the future development of the town. As part of the Neighbourhood Plan consultation, members of the community can expect to hear a knock at the door as each and every household is approached for their views. The Plan, which is being pursued to act as a local land-use policy document, will hold legal weight if and when it is voted for in a local referendum.
In order to shape the content of the Plan, local people are being extensively surveyed throughout July. Residents and businesses will be able to participate in a number of ways, including a self-directed paper survey, face-to-face interviews on the doorstep, and online. Professional research firm PFA Research have also designed a survey specifically for the town’s young people.
Lee Dunkley, Camelford Town Clerk, said “the point of the Neighbourhood Plan is that it comes from the local community; it is a product of their views and is not something thrust upon them from above. I hope people will take this opportunity to participate in shaping the future of the town.”
Camelford Neighbourhood Plan Project Manager, Simon Swale, added “We now have the opportunity to have a detailed community conversation about infrastructure, housing, education and jobs. The Plan will develop real policies that will have a real impact and legal standing for future planning applications.”
The Camelford Neighbourhood Plan working group comprises local residents and organisations. For more information contact the secretary Claire Hewlett at clairehewlett@btinternet.com or call 01840 212880.
