A Referendum relating to the adoption of the Camelford Parish Neighbourhood Development Plan will be held on Thursday 3rd March
2022. The question which will be asked in the Referendum is “Do you want Cornwall Council to use the neighbourhood plan for Camelford to help it decide planning applications in the neighbourhood area?”
A Neighbourhood Development Plan (NDP) is a community-led framework for guiding the future development, regeneration and conservation of an area. It is about the use and development of land and contains our vision, objectives, planning policies, proposals for improving the area and/or providing new facilities and protecting the landscape. In 2014 CTC decided to begin the process of creating a NDP following a number of public consultations and surveys that were completed between 2004 and 2018. This plan relates to planning decisions made within Camelford Parish.
The plan would not be adopted following a no vote. If there is a “no” vote CTC would have to rewrite the plan and re-consult (if CTC wanted to do that). The NDP provides a development boundary and protections for car parks, green spaces and landscape, and includes policies on transport, accessibility for bikes/pedestrians . It also states where and what type of housing would be preferred (i.e. smaller developments that are accessible to the town to encourage walking and cycling) (see Design Statement). It supports the bypass and encourages economical growth for the town whilst protecting local heritage. Without a NDP we rely on Cornwall Council to represent our interests.
